There is just something about a quiet afternoon, when you are left to your own devices, stomach rumbling along quietly and the spirit folds deeper into useless comfort. You are in sleepyland...
In my case, I not only retreat into this frustrating morass but my mind tends to wander further afield and I become less interested in my work. I daydream. I think about other possibilities and more colourful pursuits and before I know it, an entire unproductive hour passes.
| One of the things that would occupy my thoughts |
Fortunately, it's entirely possible to do this whilst still looking busy. When I first started at my job, my employer made the fateful mistake that no employer should ever make, and that is to allow me to choose my own cubicle, making it imminently easier for to me surf the web undisturbed. Lately, my surfing habits seem to resemble someone suffering from ADHD as my interests swing rapidly from interior decoration, arts and craft knitting to travelling. On one particularly rainy afternoon, even the impressive internet speed at work could not keep up with my furious googling.
Travels
At the end of this month, my friends and I will immerse ourselves in one of Asia's true wonders: the Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia. We've been trying to plan a trip for the longest time but as schedules would have it, busy professionals will inevitably find conflicts. And so finally, during an otherwise languid afternoon, we finally took the plunge, and now the only challenge left for us to worry about is the ability to cram all Siem Reap has to offer into one extended weekend.

Interior decoration
In two years' time I will be the proud owner of a home of my own. Bought and paid for (I still technically have a mortgage) with my own blood, sweat and tears! This will perhaps be the subject of many a blog posts to come especially when I actually move into it (it's still under construction) but for now, the internet is the place I turn to for all kinds of ideas on interior decoration.
These days my favourite interior decoration website is Apartment Therapy, which, despite its name, provides a wealth of interior decoration inspiration, tours, and resources for landed properties. Even though I mostly enjoy the pictures on the blog, I do sometimes take up their recommendation on other resources out there. The other day Marcus Design by designer Nancy Marcus was featured due to an innovative spin she put on an innocent piece of IKEA furniture and ever since then, my love for Marcus Design has never faltered. I love everything on her website.

Speaking of IKEA (we love! yay!), I also found a neat website that attempts to "crack" IKEA furniture. The idea is to take a modular mass market piece of home furnishing and turn it into a customised centrepiece.
Another kind of design
Any girl worth her salt will dream of one day owning one thing and one thing only: the Hermes Kelly bag. Named after the famed Princess-of-Hollywood-turn-Princess-of-Monaco, the bag costs both arms and both legs but that has not stopped any of us from imagining that one day, the retail fairy will bless us with the gift of the Kelly.
Fortunately for us mere mortals, the folks at Hermes have made this one step closer to being possible by allowing us to download a Kelly. That's right. It's in pdf and you can print one out on pretty paper, origami that baby and you have yourself a paper Kelly.

I don't know about you but I thought this was way cool.

| The real mccoy |
However, I'm not sure if I will do this myself - mainly because I suck at origami. In any case, I promise to blog about it if ever I produce one!
So that pretty much chronicles my afternoons over the past month thereabouts. I hope you're having a good arvo yourself. Come back soon!
