If there is one thing that I will always remember Istanbul fondly for is the food. In anticipation of my next travel post (sorry!), I have decided to load up some photographic proof of the life philosophy that all Malaysians swear by: "have food, will travel".
We were walking around in Taksim quite aimlessly one evening when we came across a little hole in the wall. All that was for sale were every kind of Turkish sweets: Turkish delights in every colour of the rainbow, nougat rolls with whole pistachios in the centre, banana toffee slices, crispy fried swirls that look like birds' nests and raspberry coloured fig sandwich pastries. We did what every self respecting Malaysian would do - we bought one in every flavour, sat down with a good strong cup of Turkish coffee (not that they ever make weak ones), and people watched.
As music drifted in through our cafe window from the street outside married with laughter and smoke from multicoloured hashish, our Turkish adventure quickly turned into a delight for the senses.
More write up on the entire trip to come!
