Because we only think of one thing

What did you think it was gonna be?

Hungry workers at lunch will scale mountains to reach good food. We were no different one Thursday afternoon when we decided to cross the busy street in front of our building to get to a new restaurant we heard had just opened. It had very little publicity apart from word-of-mouth, but 10 minutes after we sat down at our table we realised they didn't need any more advertising than that.

They had a cute name befitting our unplanned romp across the divide - Impromptu, but a generic enough decor that was easily overlooked, save for the odd glass chamber where they have seemingly imprisoned their cook for passers-by to see. Pasta, we were told, have been lovingly handmade. Something I was most appreciative of especially at the sight of an unusually dark linguini that ensured it was not lost amongst the creamy sauce.

Food is a bit of a hit and miss. Depending on what you order it could be absolutely sublime but my colleagues who had been there the day before were cautioning me against a certain chicken tandoori. My pick was the seafood thai pasta and it was wonderful. Another colleague on the other hand who had opted for the chicken pesto was less than impressed.

Prices are quite reasonable (high teens for my bowl of pasta) if you were to compare them with the likes of Delicious, who with all their gimmicky claims of fine cafe dining are reasonably...well...delicious if you haven't already gotten bored of a menu that has not changed in years. So for a bit of good variety, and if you don't mind the trial and error process needed to find the real gems in the menu, do drop by Impromptu, Menara Hap Seng. Go early if you're doing lunch as the office crowd can overwhelm.
